  • Tuchel forced players to train on Sunday in what was expected to be the players' day off after their Premier League match on Saturday
  • Chelsea are currently undergoing a tough run of form with the Champions League spot threatening to slip away from their grasp
  • Tuchel is hoping to get his players back on track with the aim of winning the FA Cup final when they face Liverpool on Saturday

Thomas Tuchel is facing backlash at Chelsea after making his players train on a supposed off day. The Chelsea players were supposed to use Sunday as a rest day after playing on Saturday, but the German coach called them in.

Chelsea’s recent drop in form has brought unrest and fears that they might miss out on Champions League football. The Blues have only won twice in their last seven games.

After a disappointing 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Chelsea stars expected to rest on Sunday but were left irritated when Tuchel called them for drills. The Daily Mail reports that the Chelsea players are worn out after a gruelling season that has seen them participate in 59 games so far.

Arsenal have cut Chelsea’s grip on third place to just a single point. The outgoing European champions travel to relegation candidates Leeds United on Wednesday. A win at Elland Road could see them secure their spot in Europe’s elite competition.

Chelsea squad unsure about their competitiveness

There are also jitters in the Chelsea squad about their potential to compete for silverware next season. The impending exit of key players like Antonio Rudiger and possibly Cesar Azpilicueta has left the players in doubt.

Tuchel will be keen to resolve this under the ownership of Todd Boehly. The new Chelsea owner was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Boehly is expected to give the Chelsea squad a facelift with additions to Tuchel’s backline now imperative.

The former PSG head coach will also hope that Chelsea can rediscover their form with the FA Cup final on the horizon. Chelsea play Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday in the domestic cup final with the Blues looking for a third trophy of the campaign.

Tuchel falls out with Alonso

At the same time, Tuchel is also dealing with Marcos Alonso after falling out with the Spanish defender in their draw against Wolves.

Sports Brief had reported that Tuchel was involved in a heated exchange of words with Tuchel after the Spanish player lost possession.

Alonso is widely expected to be frozen out of the squad as he seeks to force a move out and join Barcelona.
