  • Barcelona coach Xavi has said that the team's inability to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland was due to a lack of funds
  • The Norwegian international is largely expected to leave the Bundesliga this summer and join Manchester City, with a deal set to be finalized within the next week
  • With a rumoured transfer cost of over €75 million and wages to cover, Barca, who are operating under budgetary constraints imposed by LaLiga, are in a difficult situation

Barcelona looks set to miss out on signing Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old forward is on the verge of joining English Premier League champions, Manchester City with reports suggesting the deal could be announced as early as this week.

According to a report via Goal, Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandes blamed the Blaugrana’s inability to sign the Norwegian forward on the club’s financial struggles.

"It is very difficult because of the economic situation. I can't lie to you, that is the reality.
"I wouldn't say it is only down to money. I am not going to disrespect other clubs' sporting projects. We are not the only club with a good project. City has won a lot of titles and competes at the top level.
"But if what you say happens and Barca doesn’t sign Haaland, it would have been because of financial issues."

Barcelona already has its hands bound due to limited economic movement, as they are subject to LaLiga's financial limits and will not be able to afford Haaland's €75 million release clause.

Barcelona confident about Robert Lewandowski

Meanwhile, despite missing out on signing Erling Haaland, Barcelona are feeling very optimistic about their chances of signing another Bundesliga striker.

According to Barca Universal, Barcelona are confident about snapping up Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich as the striker wants a new challenge away from Germany.

Despite their opposition to his departure, Lewandowski's agent is certain that Bayern will sell the striker for less than €40 million, which Barcelona will be able to finance.

Barcelona targeting talented Manchester City midfielder

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona have set their sights on Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva as they continue to revamp ahead of next season.

Silva has been on the radar of the Catalan giants and there were reports that strongly suggested he could make the move to Spain last summer, but he opted to stick with the Citizens.

At Manchester City this season, he has been in fairly decent form, despite not being a regular starter, and has racked up 11 goals and five assists.
