The former Ghana captain, who had arrived in England from France disclosed he told compatriot Michael Essien he was going to score against Chelsea.

“The first time I got there I called Essien, I told him I am going to score against Chelsea. We had a conversation and he was welcoming me to England as a friend. I didn’t know what came to my mind and I told him I am going to score against Chelsea,” Gyan told Asaase Radio as quoted by Talksportsghana.com.
“He was like you are funny! So we started laughing on the phone. During the week I said this is the time let’s see. And I scored the second goal.”

Asamoah Gyan starred as Sunderland thumped Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on November 14, 2010.

Unfortunately, Michael Essien could not feature in that game as he watched from the stands after then Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti kept him out of the matchday squad.

Asamoah Gyan opens up on the disappearance of musician Castro

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has lifted the lid on what ensued before, during and after the disappearance of best friend and Ghanaian musician Theophilus Tagoe, affectionately called Castro.

The 36-year-old striker shared a close bond with Castro which led to Gyan composing various hit songs with the latter.

Their close-knit friendship was, however, short-circuited by an unfortunate incident which led to the disappearance of Castro while on holiday, on July 6 2014.
