Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile's goal-scoring exploits this season in the DStv Premiership have put him among the leading goal-getters on the planet.
The Namibian has scored 22 times this season in the league and is three goals away from equalling the Premier Soccer League record of 25 set by Zambian Collins Mbesuma in the 2004/05 campaign.
As reported by City Press, only three other players, Siyabonga Nomvethe (20 goals during the 2011/12 season), Pollen Ndlanya (21 in 1998/99) and Wilfred Mugeyi (22 in 1996/97) have breached the 20-goal mark in the PSL era.
In the 20 league goal "club" this season that Shalulile finds himself is a whole host of impressive individuals. It includes Robert Lewandowski (34, Bundesliga), Ciro Immobile (27, Serie A), Karim Benzema (26, La Liga), Karim Benzema (24, Ligue 1), Mohamed Salah (22, Premier League) and Erling Haaland (21, Bundesliga).
Notably, every one of those leagues but for the Bundesliga (18 teams) comprises of 20 teams, so Shalulile's strike rate in a 16-team league is not something to sneeze at.
He has a chance to add to his tally against Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC and Royal AM. Shalulile has scored 28 times in all competitions and also has the Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants to look forward to.
