- Eddie Howe confirmed the star would not be fined, but would receive a talking to
Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin will have to apologise to fans and manager Eddie Howe after a controversial interview of him surfaced from France.
In the interview, Saint-Maximin seemingly criticizes the quality of his teammates, something that has been deemed likely to cause a rift in the dressing room.
The winger will not be fined, but Howe admitted that what the winger said in the interview was in bad taste.
What Saint Maximin said:
As reported by The Mirror, Saint Maximin was quoted by a French magazine saying he would get more assists if he played with players with the quality of Sadio Mane.
“The day I have a player capable of finishing actions, I will make seasons with 10-15 assists, and I will change dimensions in people's heads.” Maximin allegedly told the French magazine.
This greatly angered Howe, who said the French winger’s sentiments had the potential of breaking team spirit within the squad.
“We will be speaking with the squad, and making sure there’s no fallout from that because unity has been our strength. It’s vitally important that we keep that at all costs. I saw the quotes, spoke with Allan,” Howe said as quoted by Mirror.
In the same interview, Saint-Maximin seemed to suggest he saw a future at Newcastle, and hoped the club would make more quality signings.
Howe’s transformation of Newcastle
Since taking charge of the Magpies, Eddie Howe has done a tremendous job in transforming the club from relegation contenders to safely sitting in midtable.
With three games of the season remaining, Newcastle are in 10th place, with 43 points after an incredible run that saw them win four of their last five Premier League games.
