Rangers FC and Red Bull Leipzig's UEFA Europa League semifinal second leg match tonight at the Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow promises to be an engrossing affair.
Leipzig goes into the match holding a narrow 1-0 lead over Rangers thanks to a late wonder-strike by Angelino last week Thursday. The winner of the tie will then move on to the final to be hosted at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Seville, where one of West Ham and Entracht Frankfurt will await after duking it out in the other semifinal.
Should Giovanni Christiaan van Bronckhorst's men advance to the final, it will be the first time a Scottish team has done so in the competition since rivals Glasgow Celtic in 2003, where they lost 3-2 to Jose Mourinho's FC Porto. No team from Scotland has won the competition in its various iterations.
On the other hand, Domenico Tedesco's Leipzig would be the first German team to make it to the final since 2009, when Werder Bremen was defeated 2-1 by Shakhtar Donetsk. The last team from Germany to win the tournament was Schalke 04 in 1997, when it defeated Inter Milan 4-1 on penalties after the two-legged final ended 1-1.
The match will kick off at 9pm CAT.
