- Mamelodi Sundowns are the only top-flight club to currently have an established women's footballing team
Jessica Motaung will be a part of history on the continent after landing a new role at the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
Motaung is the daughter of Kaizer Motaung and the current Marketing and Commercial Director for Kaizer Chiefs.
It’s now been announced that she will be a part of the CAF Organising Committee for Women's Football. Her role will run from 2022 to 2024. Soccer Laduma reported that she will be a part of a group trusted to grow women's football on the continent.
Her appointment was confirmed by CAF’s Secretary-General, Veron Mosengo-Omba. Her father and Amakhosi chairman, Kaizer Motaung, praised his daughter’s achievements.
“We are very proud of our Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung. We are happy to see one of our own grow and spread her wings in continental football. Being the only South African in the committee speaks volumes. It truly is a remarkable feat,” he said.
The growth of women’s football on the continent and in the country has received much focus of late. Earlier this year the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, announced that all clubs would be required to have a women’s team as well, KickOff reported.
Those who fail to establish a women’s team will be barred from competing in CAF competitions next season if they qualified for it.
With Motaung now joining CAF to grow woman’s football, the formation of more teams in the country could soon happen. Mamelodi Sundowns are the only club to currently have a women’s team.

Gernot Rohr set to be appointed the next Eagles head coach
FootballAs the world celebrates International Women’s Day today, more focus is now on women in sports than ever before. Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, wants Premier Soccer League teams to lead the charge, or face serious consequences.
Currently, only Mamelodi Sundowns have a women’s team, a team that has already won the CAF Women’s Champions League. Royal AM, Kaizer Chiefs, and Cape Town City are currently fighting it out for the continental qualifying spots in the DStv Premiership, but do not have a women’s team setup.
Now with Minister Mthethwa putting his foot firmly down, these teams will be forced to start women’s teams this year or lose their places in CAF competitions next season, Sports Brief earlier reported.
