McCarthy has been without a club since he parted ways with AmaZulu last month. While he was linked with many sides since he became a free agent, McCarthy remained mum on his plans until now.

Speaking to SABC Sport, McCarthy confirmed that will be visiting English Premier League (EPL) side Brentford FC this week. McCarthy is also planning a trip to Crystal Palace later this month.

“I will go down to West London to go and visit at Brentford FC and obviously have a lunch with a head coach Thomas Frank,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy is no stranger to the EPL and once donned the kits of Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United. McCarthy played 140 games for Blackburn, scoring 52 goals and providing 10 assists, TransferMarkt confirmed.

His experience of playing abroad has helped open doors for him in Europe now. McCarthy went on to explain that the England visit was part of a fact-finding mission for him, much like Gavin Hunt did at Manchester City recently.

McCarthy is keen to see the differences between Brentford’s level and the level of football in South Africa and learn how to grow that level in the country.

McCarthy added that the country would need to catch up to the rest of the world if they are to compete at the highest levels.

AmaZulu and Benni McCarthy part ways, Usuthu Chairman Sandile Zungu confirms that the club needed a change

Benni McCarthy is no longer the coach of AmaZulu Football Club. AmaZulu confirmed earlier today that they had parted ways with the 44-year-old, but that the decision was an amicable one, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Benni joined the KwaZulu-Natal based side in December 2020 and led them to second spot in the DStv Premiership. When he joined the club, they were languishing in 13th, iDiski Times reported. Benni also led the team to their first CAF Champions League campaign.

This season has been a different story, though, as AmaZulu have drawn 14 games and sits in the ninth position in the DStv Premiership. The record for most draws in a season is 20 and belongs to Swallows FC.
