According to Mirror UK, a Man United supporters group had asked fans to stage a walkout in the second half of the match in protest against the Glazers.

The publication claims the protest was planned 17 minutes before the full-time whistle to mark 17 years of the Glazer's ownership of the club.

However, the duo of Ronaldo and Varane averted the protest after they found the back of the net in the second half of the match.

Bruno Fernandes had earlier in the first half scored United's opener, with Ronaldo having a goal chalked off by VAR.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or finally got his name on the scoresheet when he doubled the lead from the spot in the 61st minute.

Varane put the game to bed 10 minutes later as he scored United's third goal and his first since he joined the club from Real Madrid.

The Red Devils' dominance in the match left fans with no choice but to stick around, with players giving them a lap of honour at full-time as is the tradition.

Rangnick discloses Ronaldo is not leaving Man United

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has broken silence on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford.

According to the tactician, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will remain at the club beyond this season.

Ronaldo, who has a year left on his current deal at the club has widely been linked with a summer exit.
