Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo says he wants to follow in the footsteps of Asamoah Gyan as he nears a call-up to the Ghana national team.

The 22-year-old Bristol forward was reportedly named in Ghana coach Otto Addo's provisional squad to face Nigeria in the World Cup play-offs in March.

But Semenyo sustained an injury that ruled him out of the doubleheader.

While Semenyo has been inspired by Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba, it is former Sunderland forward Gyan he hopes to emulate with his conduct on and off the field.

Speaking to Accra-based Happy FM, the young striker says he wants to be like former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.

“I would say Asamoah Gyan. As a young boy watching Ghana, he was obviously the person everyone looked up to," he said.
Gyan was the striker that scored the goals and as a young player for me, I also want to score goals as well so every time I watched him he scored goals and I was like, ‘I want to be like him,” Semenyo added.

Since his return from injury, Semenyo has been in blistering form for the Robins, scoring a goal and setting up two goals in Bristol City's resounding win over Hull City last Saturday.

He has been involved in 20 goals for Bristol City this season, scoring on eight occasions and providing 12 assists and will be a great addition for the Black Stars ahead of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, which begins this month.

Ghana is set to start the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON later this month. The first match of the campaign will be against Madagascar in Ghana.

Ghanaian Forward Antoine Semenyo Not Afraid of ‘Juju’ Reports in Black Stars

Sports Brief earlier reported that soon-to-be, Black Stars striker Antoine Semenyo has opened up on the superstition reports surrounding the national team.

Reports of the use of black magic in the Black Stars have gone rife with ex-footballers and connoisseurs of the game sharing their accounts of its practice in camp.

Owing to the growing reports about the practice of 'juju' in the Black Stars, Ghanaian players born in the diaspora are reportedly coy in committing their national team allegiance to the Black Stars but Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo is proving to be an exception.
