Runaway Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko recorded a historic victory at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena when the Porcupine Warriors pipped West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) on Saturday afternoon.
Cameroon import Franck Mbella Etouga scored the solitary goal to hand the Porcupine Warriors all-three points in a keenly contested affair.
The Kumasi-based giants went into the matchday 27 league clash against the relegation-threatened WAFA on the back of two successive defeats.
But the league leaders needed a second-half strike from Mbella, the leading top scorer in the competition, to bring an end to their poor run of form.
The victory does not only consolidate their lead at the summit of the Ghanaian top-flight but most importantly ends their struggle on a ground which they had never won.
How did Asante Kotoko beat WAFA?
Fresh from their humbling 3-1 home defeat to Legon Cities, Kotoko knew they had to bring an end t their poor streak of form sooner rather than later.
Their work was cut out with the absence of key figures in the team compounded with history going against them in the fixture.
But Mbella netted his 18th goal of the season when he was put through on goal before rounding the goalkeeper to put the ball into the yawning net.

Michel Otoo opened the scoring after he converted a beautiful penalty in the 18th minute.
The visitors doubled their lead ten minutes later courtesy of a wonderful striker by Hans Kwoffie.
