FootballGhana’s Safest Pair of Hands Jojo Wollacott Wants to Win AFCON With Black Stars
- Jojo Wollacott has set his sights on helping the Black Stars end their 40-year Africa Cup of Nations drought
- Wollacott, who received a lot of backlash for his underwhelming display at the 2021 AFCON, became a cult hero for his instrumental role in Ghana's return to the FIFA World Cup
- The 25-year-old custodian has also been named in the SkyBet League Two Team of the season to underline his superlative display this campaign
Swindon Town and Black Stars shot-stopper Jojo Wollacott has set an ambitious target for himself.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has revealed he wants to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Stars, a feat which was last attained by the West African nation 40 years ago.
But in an interview with Accra-based radio station Happy FM, Wollacott did not mince words in seeking to bring joy to Ghanaians by winning the AFCON title.
"With Ghana, I want to be successful at the World Cup, win AFCON, bring enjoyment to Ghanaians," he said as quoted by Ghanaweb.
The AFCON crown has proved elusive for Ghana despite appearing in three finals since their last success four decades ago.
In Ghana's last appearance at the biennial competition, the Black Stars failed to qualify from the group stage for the first time in the history of the tournament and will want to banish those ghosts sooner rather than later with the 2023 AFCON on the horizon.
Before realizing his dream of winning the AFCON, Jojo and his teammates will have to qualify for the main competition after being drawn into a tricky group which features Angola, Madagascar and the Central African Republic.
