Karim Benzema showed great composure and technique to bury a late penalty to revive Real Madrid’s Champions League hopes in the semi-final first-leg game against Manchester City.

The French striker needed to score to reduce the Los Blancos’ deficit against a determined Man City side after Real Madrid were awarded a late penalty.

According to Sports Bible, the 34-year-old attacker was targeted by fans of the Premier League side as he prepared to take the spot-kick.

Benzema however was not distracted by the antics of the Man City supporters as he calmly converted his penalty through a cheeky Panenka to the amazement of all watching.

Benzema joins high-profile players like Egypt’s Mohammed Salah and Kasper Schmeichel who in recent times have been targeted with lasers by fans in a tense penalty shootout.

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema has opened up on the reason he decided to take a Panenka penalty when he was provided the chance to take a spot-kick in the final minutes against Man City.

According to the Independent, the 34-year-old revealed he had a lot of confidence in himself and that he is never afraid of taking penalties.

Real Madrid will only trail by one goal heading into next week's second leg at the Bernabeu thanks to Benzema's second goal of the game, which marks his ninth Champions League goal in five knockout games.
