Chelsea fans angry as Victor Ikpeba claims Blues will not qualify for Champions League semifinal
FootballThomas Tuchel Wants Chelsea To Sign at Least Two New Defenders
- Chelsea are set to lose Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers at the end of the season
- Thomas Tuchel has put Jules Kounde, Josko Gvardiol and Pau Torres on his shortlist
- The Blues still can't negotiate new contracts or sign new players until the ownership situation is resolved
Thomas Tuchel is reportedly intent on adding a few defenders to his Chelsea side in the upcoming transfer window. The Blues could lose two to three defenders on a free transfer.
Chelsea currently doesn’t have the capacity to negotiate new contracts for its players until the ownership situation is resolved. The sale of the club is set to be finalized in the next few weeks.
Three consortiums are understood to be leading the race so far. Sir Martin Broughton, Stephen Pagliuca and Todd Boehly are all the perceived frontrunners to take over from Roman Abramovich.
Tuchel wants the new owners to move in for at least two defenders to cover the gaps that will be left by Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also out of contract in the summer.
After the slender 1-0 win over West Ham, Tuchel confirmed that Rudiger would be leaving the club at the end of the season. The former Paris Saint Germain tactician said that they had done everything possible to extend Rudiger’s stay.
The club tried everything. But for some weeks, we can’t fight anymore. We can’t continue. It will be difficult to replace him because Toni is what he is. A big personality, a leader, and he takes fear away from other people.
Rudiger is understood to already have agreed on a deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid. Christensen meanwhile is on Barcelona’s radar, who are also chasing Azpilicueta’s signature.
According to Metro UK, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villareal’s Pau Torres are top of Tuchel’s transfer wish list. Tuchel is also understood to be a big admirer of RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
Kounde almost joined Chelsea last summer but a last-minute change in terms saw the deal fall through. Chelsea will be keen to reignite that interest this summer. Tuchel considers Pau Torres a perfect fit to play on the left-hand side of his three-man defence.
