In Egypt, the side is bound to come against other tournament favourites including group opponents, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and cup-holders, Cameroon.
Algeria's head coach Djamel Belmadi is also grappling with a relatively inexperienced squad compared to previous editions, with Man City's Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani among the team’s most notable names.
