Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru could not hold his tears after injury forced him off after just 16 minutes on his return to action.
The Anderlecht star was introduced into the second half of the Belgium Cup final against KAA Gent on Monday night, but he was withdrawn few minutes later due to injury.
Majeed Ashimeru broke down in tears as he walked off the pitch with the scoreline as 0-0 between the two sides.
To make things worse, Anderlecht went on to lose the Cup final 4-3 on penalties.
"This should have been a message of celebration and victory but sadly it isn’t! I’m gutted we disappointed you yesterday even though you lot stood with us every step of the way. We will continue to go fight to make you proud," a disappointment Ashimeru wrote on Twitter.
What manager Vincent Kompany said after the game
Despite losing the Belgium Cup to rivals KAA Gent, Kompany believes if Ashimeru had stayed fit the result could have been different.
"He was a profile we could use in the second half. A number of Ghent players were tired. The more the game progressed, the more I thought we could gain control there," said Kompany as quoted by voetbalkrant.com.
"If it had gone differently, it would have been the perfect decision, because it worked out with him. But Kana also came in very well. We knew we still had that option."
