Aware of the mountainous task before them, Thomas Tuchel's men kicked off a dominant performance at Bernabeu and took the lead after 15 minutes of action through Mason Mount.

Antonio Rudiger doubled the advantage shortly after the break before Werner put the visitors on the brink in the 75th minute with his side's third goal of the match.

Werner has now admitted he thought he had helped Chelsea qualify for the next round of the competition.

According to the German striker, his wild celebration was influenced by the imagination that his side was in the driving seat.

"When I celebrated I thought 'this is it," Daily Mail quoted Werner saying.
"We could have scored before that to make it 3-0 but the officials didn't give it to us. It is a point you can talk about but when I scored I thought 'we are through with this'," the forward added.
