Arsenal went into the London derby as firm favourites owing to their recent fine run of results.

However, Mikel Arteta's charges were unable to match Crystal Palace's brilliance as they suffered a heavy loss away from home.

Goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew, and Wilfried Zaha were enough to deny the north Londoners a chance to sneak back into the top four.

Wayne Rooney's top-four prediction

Rooney has now reflected on Arsenal's defeat to Palace and the bearing the result could have on the top four race.

According to the Derby Count boss, the Gunners and Tottenham Hotspur are without doubt favourites to complete the top four slots at the end of the season.

However, he feels Arteta's men will come short of Tottenham, adding that Man United stand no chance of catching up with the two London sides.

"I think it’s Arsenal or Tottenham, it’s between the two of them. I look at Manchester United’s form of late, I don’t think they’re going to challenge for it," Rooney told Sky Sport via Metro UK.
"It’s between Tottenham and Arsenal and I think Tottenham have got the experience in the squad, I give them the upper hand," he added.
