Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte did not hold back in his criticism of his team’s rivals as he claimed his side is superior to Liverpool in all areas this season.

Ahead of the resumption of the Premier League this weekend, Laporte took some time to reflect on his team’s campaign so far as well as Manchester City’s biggest rivals.

With a handful of games to go this season, it is hard to call who will win the Premier League as it is a neck-to-neck battle between Manchester City and Liverpool.

City are top of the pile, but a recent tendency of dropping crucial points has seen their lead at the top cut to a solitary point by Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s side lost to Spurs and dropped points against Crystal Palace in a drab draw, while Liverpool are on a nine-game winning streak in the league, a run of form that has helped Jurgen Klopp’s men close the gap on their fierce rivals.

Despite pressure from Liverpool in the title race, Laporte was adamant his Manchester City team were better than their rivals.

"The football we play, no one else plays in the world. We’re an example of how to play nice football, to be superior in all areas," he told The Guardian.

"I think they’d like even part of our game. As for us having something of them: taking chances and benefiting from opponents’ errors a little more, because often we have the opportunity and don’t take it.

Laporte also aimed a dig at City rivals Manchester United, saying the Red Devils were a bit jealous of the blue half of Manchester.

“Maybe it’s not that they’re tired of us but they don’t think it’s normal we always win. If I’m not mistaken, we’ve won 11 trophies in four years [in fact 10 in the last four seasons which include two Community Shields]; that can annoy people, like our neighbours who haven’t won anything.

“They [Manchester United] have a lot of supporters, we’re in the same city. It’s hard [for them] to understand. But there’s only one winner. They’ve spent a lot of money too.
