Cameroon are heading to the Qatar World Cup after what is possibly the latest and most dramatic goal in qualification history.
In a drama-packed match, Cameroonian forward Karl Toko Ekambi swept home a 124th-minute winner, leaving Algeria players, fans and the manager in utter disbelief.
Algeria had won the first leg in Cameroon last week, leaving the Indomitable Lions with all to do if they were to qualify for Qatar.
Cameroon made the perfect start to the second leg at the at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting gave them the lead in the 23rd minute to level scores on aggregate.
The scoreline remained the same (1-0) after 90 minutes and the game was forced into extra time with both nations standing a fair chance of qualification.
Algeria were thoroughly dominant in extra time, and deservedly went ahead with a goal from Ahmed Touba in the 118th minute which sent the players into delirium, but no one would have predicted the plot twist that would ensue.
With the clock winding down, Cameroon got a free-kick deep in midfield and the ball fell kindly for Karl Toko Ekambi, who expertly finished to completely shatter the hearts of the Algerian fans and players in the stadium.
The late goal meant Cameroon drew level in the overall tie, but went through via the away goals rule.
Senegal beat Egypt to secure World Cup ticket
Elsewhere, Sadio Mane’s Senegal qualified for the World Cup after winning 3-1 on penalties.
It was Mane who scored the winning penalty as Senegal won 3-1 in the shootout in a highly engaging game.
Egyptian star Mohammed Salah was one of four players to miss his penalty in the shootout which saw some controversy as green lasers were aimed at Salah and his teammates.
