Readers have expressed dismay at revelations that Premier Soccer League clubs are among the worst on the planet when it comes to giving young players an opportunity.
This comes after a damning report by the CIES Football Observatory which researched 60 professional leagues across the globe was released. The criteria for the report was determined by "ranking 60 leagues worldwide according to the percentage of minutes played by U21 players since the 1st of January 2021."
As was reported by Sports Brief, the irony is that South African football is blessed by the highly successful DStv Diski Challenge (PSL Reserve League), which has launched many careers since its inception in 2014.
Local football fans were unhappy and also unsurprised by the news.

As reported by Sports Brief, the CIES Football Observatory released the latest statistics on U21 footballers around the world in a report that has revealed which leagues afford the most – and the least – opportunities to young players.
The criteria for the report was determined by "ranking 60 leagues worldwide according to the percentage of minutes played by U21 players since the 1st of January 2021."
