  • Spanish powerhouse Barcelona have joined the race to sign Paris Saint-German forward Kylian Mbappe this summer
  • The Catalan giants believe they can compete in producing a proposal that the French striker will consider
  • Kylian Mbappé has not closed the door to Barcelona and will listen to the proposal as his focus is the quality of the sporting project

FC Barcelona have made a move to try and sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain, according to reports from France

L'Equipe claim that the French World Cup winner, whose contract expires on June 30, will hear out the Catalans who believe that an approach for Mbappe will turn out to be cheaper than the €300mn ($330mn) project to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

While Mbappe's potential next generation rival in the race to become the sport's best player after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has a release clause of €75mn ($82.5mn) for starters, there are also commission fees of around €40mn ($44mn) for his agent Mino Raiola and father Alfe-Inge Haaland to consider.

Mbappe on the other hand, who joined the Ligue 1 giants in 2017, can head to the Camp Nou free of charge and snatching him away from bitter rivals Real Madrid who he has been closest linked to would be a great coup for president Joan Laporta and first team coach Xavi Hernandez after Barca beat Los Blancos 4-0 in El Clasico at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

Neymar Tops Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe as Ligue I Highest Earner

Sports Brief earlier reported that Brazilian superstar Neymar has been named the highest-paid footballer at Paris-Saint Germain, French newspaper L'Equipe has announced.

The 30-year-old joined the Parc de Princess side on an astronomical £198m from Barcelona in 2017, becoming the most expensive footballer in the World.

He still remains French Ligue 1's top earner, earning a monthly salary of £3.4million before tax. This equates to a yearly gross salary of just under £41m per year.

Mauricio Pochettino Reveals Who Is to Blame After PSG's Dramatic Collapse

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochetino has slammed match officials for what he termed a ‘big mistake’ made during his side PSG’s dramatic exit from the Champions League.

The Parisians suffered a shocking collapse at the Santiago Bernabeu as Karim Benzema scored a hat trick to help his side come from behind to claim a 3-2 aggregate win.

At halftime, everything seemed to be going according to plan for PSG as they were leading the game 1-0 thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s crisp finish in the first half.
