- Orlando Pirates have identified Gavin Hunt as a possible replacement for Davids and Ncikazi if results don't improve
With another disappointing season on the domestic front continuing and pressure mounting on co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids, Orlando Pirates could be on the hunt for a new coach.
As reported by The Citizen, the Buccaneers’ management recently held a meeting with Ncikazi and Davids and told them that their future with the club was not guaranteed for the next season.
A source who spoke to The Citizen claimed that it was a squad full of egos.
“Everyone is just playing for their own benefit. I no longer see anyone playing for the team. The guys are just full of egos, I don’t understand. They like to gossip amongst each other and they even talk against one another. So, that is the thing – they don’t really like each other, they just like pretending.
Pirates are now believed to be hunting for a coach who can unite the team once again and manage the egos.
As reported by The South African, Gavin Hunt’s name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the job.
Hunt is currently without a club after he was left go by Chippa United. Prior to that, he was at the Amakhosi but the club parted ways with him following a string of poor results.
While his last two coaching stints were not successful, Hunt is an experienced coach who has won a lot of silverware. His success with SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits is proof of what he can accomplish with the right team.
Ncikazi and Davids remain in charge of the Buccaneers for now but could soon be on the chopping block if results in the league don’t pick up.
