Melusi Buthelezi’s performances in goal for TS Galaxy has caught the eye of numerous clubs and Orlando Pirates are the latest to be interested in his services.

According to The Citizen, the player’s contract at the club is set to end in June after which he will become a free agent.

Buthelezi is yet to disclose the status of his contract as he seeks to help TS Galaxy avoid relegation. TS Galaxy are currently second last on the log, a point above Baroka FC.

Pirates have five goalkeepers in their first-team squad but are looking to rebuild their goalkeeping department. The Buccaneers have Kopano Thuntsane, Elson Sithole, Wayne Sandilands, Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane. Sandilands and Mpontshane are both in their 30s while Ofori, the current first-team keeper is 29.

Sithole and Thuntsane are in their 20s but don’t have the same experience that Buthelezi does.

Buthelezi was in fine form for TS Galaxy, keeping three clean sheets in a row before he was stabbed during a hijacking. He has since recovered from the ordeal and has returned to the first-team squad.

As reported by Sunday World, Buthelezi said he was grateful to be back doing what he loves and wanted to remain in the football industry for a long time to come.

Promising TS Galaxy shot-stopper, Melusi Buthelezi, has been admitted to the hospital after he was hijacked and stabbed over the weekend. Buthelezi and his brother were travelling back from visiting their sick mother when they were hijacked by a group of men, Times Live reported.

The incident happened at a petrol station in the township. Buthelezi and his brother were both rushed to hospital, with his brother said to be in a critical condition, The South African reported. Buthelezi is said to be in a stable condition.

The 23-year-old has yet to concede a goal in top-flight football and has played the past three games for TS Galaxy. He got his big break against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup, a match which Galaxy won, Sports Brief reported.
