BoxingGhanaians Back Asamoah Gyan Over Majeed Ashimeru Comment
- Ghana fans have taken to social media to support Asamoah Gyan's comment over the exclusion of Majeed Ashimeru for the World Cup play-off
- The Anderlecht star was omitted from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming games against Nigeria
- Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg in Kumasi on Friday March 25 before travelling to Abuja for the second leg
Ghanaian football fans have backed Asamoah Gyan for claiming it is 'nonsense' to exclude in-form midfielder Ashimeru from the Black Stars squad to face Nigeria.
The red-hot Anderlecht star was conspicuously missing from the team to face Nigeria in the World Cup play-off despite his impressive displays in the Belgium league.
A disappointed Asamoah Gyan took to Twitter to state blast the technical team for not inviting the former WAFA player.
“This guy Majeed Ashimeru is the best midfielder after Thomas Partey, period. I have kept quite on some of this but this nonsense must stop,” he wrote on Twitter before later deleting the post.
The Ghana legend, who remains the country's all-time leading scorer later apologized for his post, claiming he was driven by emotions.
"I still insist that Ashimeru deserves to be in this current Black Stars BUT am sorry for using the word “Nonsense“ in my statement so I unreservedly withdraw that word, I was carried by my emotions," he wrote on Twitter.
However, fans reacted to his statement, supporting his outburst over the player's exclusion.
How Ghanaians reacted to Asamoah Gyan's comment

I agree 1000% with Asamoah Gyan. Majeed Ashimeru should've been invited. For me, ahead of Elisha Owusu. Elisha has played 17 in 32 Belgian league games for Gent this season but Ashimeru, who has Black Stars experience, has played 31 in 32 matches for Anderlecht with 3 goals.
@OfficialSitso added:
If you put emotions aside then you realise Asamoah Gyan didn't say anything wrong even with the word NONSENSE. If in his opinion Ashimeru is the best Ghanaian midfielder only behind Partey then what sense does it make that he isn't in the team? It makes no sense - NONSENSE.

Only fair that Otto Addo explains the Majeed Ashimeru exclusion when he has any opportunity.
@KwesiBenedict tweeted:
For the records Asamoah Gyan is not Ashimeru's manager or even his friend. He is just stating facts. If a player is good, he is good!

I agree with Asamoah Gyan, Ashimeru deserves the captains armband for the next 20 years, unfortunately he's not a family and friends player. Your time will come bro
Asamoah Gyan blast Black Stars for Majeed Ashimeru's absence for Nigeria game
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan has weighed in on Ghana's 27-man squad released earlier today.
After several weeks of secrecy surrounding the announcement of the Black Stars squad to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria, coach Otto Addo belatedly released his squad on Tuesday morning.
Coach Addo's squad features four debutants as well as notable inclusions such as Partey and Amartey. However, Anderlecht attacker Majeed Ashimeru was the conspicuous absentee on the list.
