- Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 22-man squad for the World Cup play-off against Senegal next week
- The Portuguese trainer will be missing eight players from the Africa Cup of Nations including defender Ahmed Hegazi
- The seven times African champions lost to Senegal in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations last month in Cameroon
Seven times African champions Egypt have named their squad for the World Cup play-off against Senegal next week.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz released his team for the double header on Saturday, and will be missing eight players from the Africa Cup of Nations.
However Al Ahly's in-form defender Yasser Ibrahim and Omar Gaber of Pyramid FC are returning to the team.
Notable names missing from the squad are West Bromwich Albion's Ahmed Hegazi, who suffered an injury during AFCON, Ramadan Sobhi and Mohamed Hany also through injury setbacks.
Meanwhile, the shocking absentees Al Ahly's leading scorer Mohamed Sherif failed Zamalek’s starman Tarek Hamed.
Akram Tawfik, Mohanad Lasheen, Mahmoud Gad, Marwan Dawod, Abdallah El-Said, and Ibrahim Adel have also missed out on selection.
The Pharaohs in a repeat of the AFCON final will hosts the Teranga Lions in the first leg on March 25, 2022 in Cairo before travelling to Dakar for the second leg in four days time.

FootballAlfred Gomis to miss Egypt versus Senegal World Cup play-off
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that African champions, Senegal are likely to miss goalkeeper Alfred Gomis for the crucial World Cup play-off against Egypt next week.
The Teranga Lions will travel to Cairo for the first leg before hosting the same opponents four days later in Dakar.
Ahead of the game, Gomis confirmed news of his injury on social media, making him a doubt for the clash next week.
