  • The GFA Executive Council member believes delaying the squad will keep their opponents in suspense
  • Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier next week at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Samuel Anim Addo, says the delay in the announcement of the Black Stars squad is strategic.

According to Anim Addo, who is also the manager of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, the strategy is to confuse Nigeria.

And ahead of the announcement of Ghana's squad, Anim Addo told Citi Sports: “Strategically, we must keep our opponents confused and they are confused and the time that they will need to regroup and organise themselves to know what our strengths are, will be limited.
“The players who have been selected know they are travelling and are already preparing for the game. The most important thing is that you will get Ghanaians who are going to die for the country.”

While Ghanaians are awaiting the release of Ghana's squad, players of the senior national team are expected in Ghana next week for the blockbuster clash.

The Black Stars are hoping to make a return to the World Cup after missing the 2018 edition in Russia. The winner of the two legged game will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

GFA spokesperson explains delay in release of Black Stars squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante, Twum says the delay in the release of the squad to face Nigeria in the World Cup qualifier play-off is purely tactical.

With just a week to the game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the squad is yet to be released, leaving fans anxious over who comes in and who goes out of the team.

However, the FA scribe insists the delay is also to avoid social media abuse as players get affected by what they see online before games.
