The DStv Diski Challenge continued to prove its status as the league of goals in South African football.
No less than 30 goals were scored across eight matches as the title race between log-leaders Orlando Pirates and second-place Stellenbosch FC continued heating up.
As reported on supersport.com, the Buccaneers defeated TS Galaxy 2-0 on Sunday. Goals came via the boots of Thabiso Monyane and Cassius Spandeel, respectively, ensuring they remained atop the table on 49 points after 21 matches.
Simultaneously, Stellenbosch put a hapless Baroka FC to the sword with a 5-0 thumping. Stellies has scored the most goals this season with 44 and sits on 46 points with nine matches to go.
Third-placed Chippa United continued their impressive run as they edged Sekhukhune United 1-0 on Saturday. Kamohelo Hoala scored the only goal of the match to barely keep the Chilli Boys in the title race. Chippa remains third on the log with 10 points behind Pirates on 39 points.
Swallows FC edged Golden Arrows 4-3 in a thriller. Tiniko Sithole, Mnqobi Mkhize (2), and Phelelani Mvelase struck for the Dube Birds, while Thabo Masaladi, Senzo Hlophe and Bongumusa Nkosi were on the scoresheet for the Abafana Bes'thende.
Kaizer Chiefs was embarrassed once again by Royal AM. The Amakhosi slumped to a 1-0 loss to Thwihli Thwahla by way of a Xolani Phewa penalty, ensuring that the club completed a league double over the Soweto giants at senior and reserve team level.
Mamelodi Sundowns' indifferent season continued as they had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with cellar dwellers Marumo Gallants. Thando Buthelezi broke the deadlock for Sundowns nine minutes before the halftime break, but Thato Mabunda levelled matters for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa just before the hour-mark.
