Former Orlando Pirates captain, Thabo Mngomeni, has caused quite a stir on social media with his recent comments regarding Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Bafana star, who spent four years with the Buccaneers, recently said that Mamelodi Sundowns will dominate the league for the next ten years.

Speaking to iDiski Times, Mngomeni added that Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have been left behind by the Chloorkop based side.

“You see now they’ve taken the league five times. So now leave that five, start from afresh, from this decade, starting from now, Sundowns is going to win the league again for the next 10 years,” he said.

Mngomeni has often been critical of his former side and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Last month he stirred the pot once again when he urged Pirates to appoint Mandla Ncikazi as the head coach of the Buccaneers, Times LIVE reported.

Football fans have been divided by his latest comments, with some asking what he was smoking, while others believed that his comments weren’t that far-fetched.

Here's how readers reacted to the news:

@Zee10Dmitri:

"Ok, we know they are currently dominating and all but who makes such a wild prediction mara?"

@RingoWaKhelina:

"It’s now 5 years back to back. Who would’ve thought? So it’s not that wild to predict a decade from now."

@MgeeDaAlien:

"Seeing how those 2 Soweto teams are running things, it's gonna take them a while vhele to challenge Sundowns... So he might be right, no vision there at Soweto.

@Mazanani1:

"This is football people, things change. Juventus dominated 8 consecutive years, they lost it last season. Al Ahly dominated for long, they lost it last season. Football is unpredictable."

@Morator6606:

"If Pirates can fire those arrogant and clueless coaches and Chiefs give Baxter pension, then....."

"Sundowns is playing against Orlando Pirates Lite": Masandawana mock Buccaneers after beating Mathaithai FC

Mamelodi Sundowns’ fans are still over the moon after their side trounced Mathaithai FC in the Nedbank Cup. Sundowns ran out 6-0 winners thanks to goals from Surprise Ralani, Themba Zwane, Thabiso Kutumela (2), Lebohang Maboe and Andile Jali, Sports Brief reported.

As Sport24 noted, it wasn’t the same result that Sundowns handed out to Powerlines FC when they beat them 24-0, but it was still a drubbing. Fans of the Brazilians were also quick to point out that Sundowns once beat Orlando Pirates by the same scoreline, so Mathaithai FC had nothing to be ashamed about.

Sundowns beat Pirates 6-0 in a Premier Soccer League fixture in 2017, a result that angered Pirates supporters so much, that they invaded the pitch and destroyed TV cables and cameras, The South African reported.
