Reece James has suffered a fresh injury scare just three matches after coming back from a lengthy layoff.
James was the star of the show as Chelsea brushed aside Burnley 4-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday, March 5 to cement their place in third place on the log.
But the England star could potentially miss a number of games again as reports suggest he has a muscle strain that is likely to keep him out of the clash against Norwich City on Thursday.
Ahead of the Norwich game, Thomas Tuchel shed light on the situation as he revealed the muscle injury was not related to the hamstring issue that kept James out for two months.
“Everybody was on the training pitch today [Wednesday] except for Ben Chilwell and Reece James, who has muscular problems after three matches - not his injured leg but the other leg. We need examination. Tuchel said as quoted by the club website.
The fullback made his first start in 2022 against Norwich City but had to come off early, with Tuchel saying it was a precautionary measure.
“He felt it during the match, that’s why we took him out. It didn’t get better so we are worried. Still we need some more details, more information. Today will be further examinations. It is obvious what he gives to our team so not good news at the moment. A setback for sure, I hope not a big one.”
Meanwhile, another Chelsea fullback, Ben Chilwell, has stepped up his recovery and is involved in light training.
Marcos Alonso is also back in training after a bout with COVID-19, while Cesar Azpilicueta has overcome a knock that kept him out of the Carabao Cup final.
