Swallows Football Club Makes Key Signing as It Looks to Avoid Relegation to National First Division

As Swallows Football Club continues to flirt with relegation, management has at least tried arresting their alarming fall down the table.

The Dube Birds reportedly added former Black Leopards and Jomo Cosmos player Pentjie Zulu this week to their nest. This was according to a source close to football publication Soccer Laduma.

Zulu was already training with the club ahead of the Nedbank Cup last 16 clash against Royal AM on Friday, where he will be hoping to make his debut for the club.

It’s believed that the player has been signed on a four-month deal until the end of the season and a decision on whether or not he stays with the club will be made at that point.

The arrival of the 31-year-old will give Swallows coach Dylan Kerr more options at left back, while there is also a boost of former Mamelodi Sundowns player Tebogo Langerman returning from injury this week.

Swallows is currently in 14th place on 18 points after 22 matches. They are one point above TS Galaxy on 17 points in 15th place, which is a relegation-promotion playoff spot. Worryingly, Baroka FC is also in last place on 17 points, setting up an intriguing battle in who will escape the drop.

Swallows FC confirms that stalwart Vuyo Mere was fired by the club

It has emerged that former Moroka Swallows stalwart Vuyo Mere was shown the door by the Dube Birds.

As reported by Sports Brief, Mere abruptly left the club last weekend during the open January transfer window, rocking up at Mpumalanga club TS Galaxy.

The 37-year-old was expected to retire at the end of the season in the colours of Swallows, having helped them regain top-flight status a couple of seasons ago.
