Marumo Gallants vs Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch missed the chance to go into the top four in the DStv Premiership, as they were beaten by Marumo Gallants 1-0. Stellenbosch will feel hard done by Gallants’ goals though. Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo scored from the penalty spot in the 40th minute, but replays suggest that a penalty shouldn’t have been given in the first place, as the foul was committed outside the box and the player fell into the box.

Stellenbosch also missed out on numerous chances to equalise, but they failed to find the back of the net. Juan Carlos Ortíz had the best chances for Stellenbosch but was wasteful with the chances.

Royal AM vs Swallows

Royal AM climbed up to second place in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) thanks to a late goal by Elias Pelembe, Sowetan LIVE reported. Pelembe pulled off an acrobatic bicycle kick effort, in the last seconds of extra time, to give Royal AM the 1-0 victory. Swallows only have themselves to blame as they created plenty of chances but failed to put any of them away. They also didn’t take advantage of Royal AM going down to ten men in the 76th minute. Zukile Mkhize was sent off for MaMkhize’s side after a dangerous tackle on Keletso Makgalwa.

Golden Arrows vs Chippa United

It was a game where a goal was scored in the first minute and in the last minute. Golden Arrows got off to the greatest start when Pule Mmodi scored in the first minute of the game. Chippa United fought back and Siphesihle Mkhize scored in the 39th minute, IOL reported. Sandile Mthethwa then stole the win for Chippa in the 89th minute of the game, claiming a brilliant comeback victory.

DStv Premiership: Sundowns lose late, AmaZulu beaten, Cape Town City win and Baroka boost their survival hopes

While all eyes were on the Soweto Derby yesterday, in which Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates, four other games were played in the Premier Soccer League, leading to some big results, Sports Brief earlier reported.

In the biggest upset during yesterday’s fixtures, current DStv Premiership Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, were beaten by Maritzburg United. The Team of Choice scored in the 92nd minute, from a controversial penalty, to claim a memorable victory over the log leaders.

Sundowns were looking to extend their lead at the top of the table and move one step closer to wrapping up the league title. They did create more chances than Maritzburg but could not finish any of them. Just like AmaZulu, Sundowns also missed a crucial penalty.
