- Mamelodi Sundowns are also confident that Erwin Saavedra will be fit for the crunch game against Al Ahly
Mamelodi Sundowns are searching for a new venue for their clash against Al Ahly next week, and are looking at the FNB Stadium as a possible choice.
Masandawana played their previous Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium after CAF found that Loftus Versveld did not meet the criteria necessary for Champions League games.
TimesLIVE have confirmed though, that Sundowns were in discussions with the management of the FNB Stadium, to have the match played there.
Co-coach, Manqoba Mngqithi added that they were looking for other stadiums because they were unhappy with the poor condition of the pitch at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, KickOff reported.
Sundowns previously asked to use the Lucas Moripe or Tuks Stadiums for their CAF Champions League games, but these were both rejected by CAF as well.
Sundowns will host Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly on Friday, 11 March and will be looking to record another win over the Egyptian giants.
Mamelodi Sundowns are expecting Erwin Saavedra to be match fit for the Al Ahly game
Masandawana are also hoping to have Erwin Saavedra back in the team for the big game, Soccer Laduma reported.
Saavedra was injured during Sundowns’ previous Champions League game against Al Merrikh. He missed out on the trip to Al Ahly and the game against TS Galaxy. He may even miss the Nedbank Cup game against Mathaithai FC. Mngqithi is confident that the player will be back in time for the Al Ahly game though.

FootballMamelodi Sundowns are flying high after beating TS Galaxy 3-0. Stunning strikes from Khuliso Mudau and Haashim Domingo and a Peter Shalulile goal guided the Brazilians to a comfortable win, Sports Brief reported.
Despite the comfortable win, Sundowns could have gone behind as early as the sixth minute of the game when Brian Onyango made a hasty back pass. His header lacked power, forcing Kennedy Mweene to rush out to grab the ball. The keeper collided with TS Galaxy striker, Augustine Kwem.
Sundowns then started to grow in the game and took the lead thanks to a rocket from Khuliso Mudau. The player found himself free on the edge of the box and hit a pinpoint strike into the top corner of the net. Even the commentators described it as a postage stamp goal.
