Liverpool reach the quarterfinal of the Emirates FA Cup following a 2-1 win over impressive Norwich in the fifth round of the competition, BBC reports.

It was Takumi Minamino who grabbed a brace for Jurgen Klopp’s men to send the Reds into the last eight of the competition as they keep their title hopes alive.

But the final 15 minutes of the encounter was nervy after Lukas Pupp pulled one back for the visitors, but the Anfield side held on for the victory.

It is Jurgen Klopp’s first FA Cup quarterfinal since he became Liverpool manager, but they did well to reach the stage despite the absence of star players like Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool faced fierce opposition from Norwich and it took 27 minutes before they could open the scoring after Divock Origi superbly found Minamino, who tucked the ball past a helpless Tim Krul from inside the area.

And in the 39th minute, it was 2-0 for the home side after Minamino got at the end of the ball yet again to double his side’s advantage.

However, with 14 minutes left to play, the Brazilian could do nothing as Pupp had a pop from a distance that sailed into the Liverpool net to half the deficit.

The goal seemed to give the away side renewed hope as they piled on the pressure in search of the second goal, but that was how it ended; Liverpool 2-1 Norwich.

Chelsea beat Luton to reach FA Cup quarterfinal

Meanwhile, Chelsea have booked a place in the quarter-finals of this season's FA Cup tournament.

The Blues stormed the last eight of the competition after seeing off minnows Luton in a thrilling fifth round clash staged at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night, March 2.

Thomas Tuchel's men had to stage a dramatic comeback twice during the encounter to secure a ticket for the quarters.

Tuchel reacts as Abramovich plans to sell Chelsea

Sports Brief earlier reported that Thomas Tuchel has broken his silence following Roman Abramovich's decision to sell Chelsea.

Abramovich confirmed on Wednesday, March 2, he is looking to offload the west London club to a different owner.

The Russian oligarch's decision came amid mounting pressure for the UK government to freeze assets owned by businesspeople believed to have close ties with Vladimir Putin.
