Former Black Stars Player Completes Takeover of First Division Club Accra City Stars

Former Ghana international Godwin Attram has added Accra City Stars to the club he owns after completing a successful takeover.

Attram, who co-owns lower-tier side Attram de Visser club enlarged his territories as a club owner with the acquisition of the Division One League outfit.

With the acquisition of the club by the former PSV Eindhoven playmaker, Accra City Stars will be rechristened Attram De Visser Soccer Academy Sporting Club.

According to a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the club, Nana Prempeh, the club has gone through the necessary due process at the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Thus, gaining the legal authority to make changes.

“All the necessary documentation have been acquired from the Registrar General’s Department to allow us effect the all-important change,” the statement said as quoted by footydreams.
“We are by this press statement with immediate effect also informing the GFA, the Division One League Board, the Competitions Department of the GFA and all other relevant stakeholders to address and refer to us in all correspondence as Attram De Visser Soccer Academy Sporting Club.”

Who is Godwin Attram

Godwin Attram is an ex-Ghana international who played for a host of clubs in Europe including Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven as well as having stints in North Africa and Asia.

He captained Ghana at the youth level, leading the Black Starlets (national U-17 team) to silver after losing narrowly to Brazil in 1997.

Attram, who is deemed as a cult hero at Accra Great Olympics, presently co-owns Attram de Visser together with Dutch coach Piet de Visser.

Will the takeover affect the name of Accra City Stars

Yes. Most takeovers in football more often than not lead to a change of names and that will be the situation at Accra City Stars.

The club will now be called Attram De Visser Soccer Academy Sporting Club.

This will not be the first time the club is been rechristened after it was changed from Sporting Mirren to Accra City Stars on the back of a previous change of ownership.

Accra City Stars is based in Indafa, a suburb of Accra. It is uncertain whether there will be a change in its base. However, what is certain is that the club will remain in the capital.
