- The club expressed disappointment with the decision to remove them from the competition but admitted that they do not have a choice
Russian club Spartak Moscow have responded following UEFA’s decision to remove them from the Europa League due to the invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian outfit were billed to take on German side RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the competition having won their group, but they have been withdrawn by UEFA.
The club admitted that they have no choice but to obey the verdict, stressing that they disagree with the decision.
Spartak Moscow said in a statement as per Mirror:
"The recent decision taken by UEFA and FIFA although expected is extremely upsetting. Unfortunately, the efforts that our club made in the Europa League have been nullified for reasons that are far outside the remit of sports.
"We believe that sport, even in the most difficult times, should aim to build bridges, and not burn them. We are forced to obey a decision that we do not agree with.”

Meanwhile, a number of investors around the world are said to be preparing takeover bids for English Premier League outfit Chelsea as Roman Abramovich’s future at the club remains questioned.
British Labour MP Chris Bryant had told the House of Commons that the Russian entrepreneur should be barred from living in the UK permanently.
It is not suggested that the billionaire has any involvement, but now private firms from the US have shown interest in buying the Premier League club, which is valued at around £1.5billion.
