Less than 24 hours after Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah challenged the supporters of the Porcupine Warriors to help raise funds to construct the club's own stadium, former player Kwame Poku has heeded the call.
Kwame Poku, currently plying his trade in Algeria for USM Alger, made the donation of $300 towards the construction of the edifice, reports award-winning sports journalist Saddick Adams.
The reigning Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) best sports journalist tweeted about the gesture of Kwame Poku.
Asante Kotoko, who have been staging their home games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, are bent on getting a stadium facility of their own.
What was the CEO's clarion call?
Ambitious football administrator, Nana Yaw Amponsah promised to build a stadium for Asante Kotoko in 18 months.
He explained that should the massive fanbase of the club contribute their quota, raising such a structure will no longer be a figment of the mind eye but a realistic venture.
"I will build a stadium for Asante Kotoko within 18 months if I should get 100,000 committed supporters to contribute $100 each." He told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
Who is Kwame Poku
Kwame Poku is a Ghanaian forward based in Algeria. He plays for Algerian top-flight club USM Alger.
In a short stint with Asante Kotoko, the former Nkoranza Warriors endeared himself to the fans of the club with his rampant goalscoring rate.
He has made seven appearances for USM Alger and provided an assist in the ongoing season before he got injured.

The two-time African champions have been staging their home games at the fabled Baba Yara Sports Stadium and with rumours flying about the club's keen interest in building their own facility, the club CEO has rehashed the claims.
