JDR Stars remained three points from the top in third place, after going down 2-1 to Platinum Rovers. Rovers had bounced back from a midweek defeat to TS Sporting.

The University of Pretoria, in fifth place, ensured that Black Leopards remained at the foot table with a 1-0 victory. It came courtesy of a late goal by striker Thabang Sibanyoni.

Polokwane City sneaked into second place after seeing off Uthongathi 2-0. City had just came off a thumping 4-0 triumph over Hungry Lions last Wednesday.

In a Mother City derby, Cape Town All Stars edged Cape Town Spurs (formerly known as Ajax Cape Town) 1-0. This result ensured that All Stars remained fourth place, a place below a playoff spot.

Free State Stars fluffed the opportunity to remain in touching distance after a 2-2 draw with Pretoria Callies. The result kept them in seventh place, six points behind log-leading Richards Bay.

Richards Bay, on the other hand, squeaked past Venda Football Academy. The Natal Rich Boyz were struggling for wins since the season's restart, but Simphiwe Mcineka obliged them with a late goal for a 1-0 win.

Jomo Cosmos continued to flirt with relegation down into the ABC Motsepe League. A 0-0 draw with Hungry Lions FC extended their winless streak to seven matches, just one point above the automatic demotion trap door.

TS Sporting and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC duplicated the Cosmos-Lions result with their own goalless draw, which rounded off the weekend's matches.

Log leaders Orlando Pirates halted a two-match winless streak with a relieving 2-0 victory over Cape Town City in the DStv Diski Challenge.

As reported on Sports Brief, Stellenbosch Football Club continued its relentless pursuit of the Buccaneers, defeating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1.

There were also wins for SuperSport United, TS Galaxy, Swallows FC and Royal AM as the league approaches the finish line.
