Uganda national football team has officially parted ways with coach Sebastien Desabre after the team's elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16.

The East Africa nation enjoyed a successful campaign through the group stages, finishing second behind hosts Egypt in Group A.

Cranes marched to a 2-0 win over DR Congo in their AFCON campaign opener, lost to Egypt in their second before securing a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe to seal their place in the knockouts.

Their impressive finish saw them book a slot in the competition's last 16 for the first time in more than four decades.

They subsequently set up a date with Senegal who eliminated them from the 32nd edition of the continental tournament.

Despite putting up a brave show throughout the campaign, Desabre has resolved to leave his role as Cranes head coach.

In a statement from Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa), the tactician terminated his contract with the side by mutual consent after the team returned home.

“On the 6th of July 2019, both Fufa and National Team Head coach of the Uganda Cranes Desabre Sebastien Serge Louis mutually agreed to terminate the contract between the two parties," Fufa said.
“The reasons for termination of the employment contract are for the benefit and growth of both parties," the federation added.
