  • United will be without Scott McTominay for the Watford game on Saturday, February 26, 2022
  • Ralf Rangnick confirmed the midfielder is out with illness, while Cavani is also sidelined with a groin problem
  • The Red Devils are looking to get revenge over the Hornets, who beat them 4-1 in the reverse fixture in what was Solskjaer’s last game in charge

Manchester United will be looking to consolidate their grip on fourth place when they take on relegation-threatened Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday, February 26.

Ralf Rangnick’s side faces Watford at the back of a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, in a result which was more of a win for the Red Devils, considering their performance at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Against the unpredictable Watford, United will have to be on their A-game, especially because the Hornets handed them their biggest defeat this season in the reverse fixture.

Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to start upfront for Manchester United, as Edinson Cavani is still out with a groin problem.

Ralf Rangnick also confirmed on Friday that midfielder Scott McTominay would likely miss the match with illness which also kept him out of the Atletico Madrid game.

Youngster Anthony Elanga, who has impressed in recent weeks, is pushing for a start after his impact against Atletico Madrid, while Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes are certain to start.

In defence, Raphael Varane is likely to be paired up with Harry Maguire, with Diogo Dalot and Luks Shaw expected to be the two full-backs.

Here is the predicted Manchester United lineup against Watford:

De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Pogba; Elanga, Ronaldo, Sancho

Watford team news

For Roy Hodgson’s side, they have been boosted by the return of three key players, who were out with different injuries; Juraj Kucka (abdominal injury), Joao Pedro (calf) and Joshua King (back)

Watford is likely to go with a 4-4-2 formation, despite the fact that the manager opted for a 4-3-3 in his side’s last two games.

Here is the predicted lineup for the Hornets:

Foster; Femenia, Cathcart, Samir, Kamara; Louza, Kayembe, Sissoko; Sarr, Hernandez, Dennis

Must win for Manchester United

United will have to win the game against Watford, particularly because they will have the result against the Hornets to ponder on for the next one will as they do not play again for 8 days.

The Red Devils also badly need the three points as they enter a tough run of fixtures in March, including clashes against Manchester City on March 6 and Tottenham on March 12.
