Senegal's former players paid tribute to their late teammate Papa Bouba Diop at the unveiling of the country's world-class stadium on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Khalilou Fadiga, who scored the first goal at the newly-built stadium, led the rest of 2002 Senegal squad in celebrations as they mimicked Papa Bouba Diop's celebrations from the World Cup in Japan and Korea.

In a video posted on Twitter, Fadiga, El Hadji Diouf and the ex-Senegal stars showed respect to the Senegal hero.

Papa Bouba Diop died in 2020 after a long battle with illness, but his legacy stays entrenched in Senegal's football history.

The former Fulham player is the first Senegalese player to score at the FIFA World Cup, after scoring the winner against France in 2002.

The inaugural game between Senegal's legends and African football legends ended in a 1-1 draw at a highly charged Abdoulaye Wade stadium.

Fadiga scores sensational goal at new Senegal stadium

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Khalilou Fadiga still has that powerful strikes that characterized his playing career after unleashing a belter in the inaugural game between Senegal football heroes and African football legends.

The former Coventry City player scored the first-ever goal at the new Senegal stadium in Diamniadio on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the left-footed player took on Cameroonian legend Geremi Njitap before firing from almost 30 years to open the scoring.

Sadio Mane to place CAF PoTY award in Papa Diop Museum

Liverpool star Sadio Mané will place his 2019 Africa Player of the year Award in the Papa Bouba Diop museum at the newly-built Abdoulaye Wade stadium.

The Papa Bouba Diop museum was built in honour of the late Senegal star and it is located at the new stadium in Diamniadio.

President of Senegal Macky Sall during the inauguration of the ultra-modern facility disclosed Sadio Mané will place his award in the museum.
