Former Nigerian international Kingsley Obiekwu has narrated how Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa came to his aid by giving him N2million.
The Nigerian media space was awash with news that Obiekwu who had eight caps for Nigeria back in the days, is struggling to survive as a taxi driver.
He represented Nigeria at the international level and was a member of the squad which won the gold medal in football at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
News of him surviving as a taxi driver garnered reactions from the public and Ahmed Musa was said to have made a N2million donation to the ex-international.
And now the former defender has thanked Nigerians for their show of love as he also applauded Musa for the cash gift; he however admitted that his family members were embarrassed following the news.
Obiekwu said as per Vanguard:
“I want to thank God for everything. Some members of my family have been calling me to express embarrassment over the story but I told them not to worry because I played the game and I know what I feel.
“The story is making impact with a lot of reactions, being a popular person, I cannot hide; Nigerians will be interested to know how their ex heroes are fairing, but I have told my family not to worry, that I will handle it.
“So yesterday, the Media Officer of the Super Eagles who works in a radio station called me to inform me that somebody wanted to speak with me and I said he should give him my number.

Football“Musa called me and said he had heard my story and that he and his teammates will do something but meanwhile, I should give him my account number and in about an hour’s time, I got an alert of N2 million, I appreciate that a lot.”
Musa donates to Mosque in Cameroon
Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Ahmed Musa donated the sum of N600,000 to Central Mosque in Garoua, Cameroon during the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Premier League star is a devoted Muslim and has many times displayed his faith and belief to his followers on social media.
The report added that the money Ahmed Musa donated is to support the ongoing building project of the Central Mosque in Garoua.
