  • Mohammed Salah wrote his name in the archives of the UEFA Champions League for the umpteenth time with his goal against Inter Milan last night
  • Salah added gloss to Liverpool's scoreline as the Reds defeated the Nerazzurri in the first leg of the round of 16 tie
  • His strike means he had equalled a record set by former England striker Peter Crouch as the only player to score against the two Milan sides in the Champions League

Liverpool talisman Mohammed Salah continues to break fallow grounds with every strike, with his latest against Inter Milan matching a record set by former Liverpool and Tottenham star Peter Crouch.

The Egyptian scored Liverpool's second at the Guiseppe Meazza stadium in a keenly contested match against Inter Milan following Roberto Firmino's goal, which broke the game's deadlock after 74 minutes to put the Anfield side in pole position ahead of the reverse fixture.

This accomplishment, his 36th goal in the competition, matches that of the lanky Peter Crouch, who first reached this feat while playing for north London side Tottenham Hotspurs in the 2010/11 campaign.

Crouch, now turned pundit, scored once as the Lilywhites run Inter Milan amok.

He continued with yet another solitary strike against another club based in Milan, this time around the Rosonerri as Spurs picked a one-nil win at the famous San Siro in the same season.

How Salah matched Peter Crouch’s 11-year record

Salah on the other hand first began his journey to match Crouch on September 15, 2021, as his first-half missed penalty was not enough to deter him from registering a goal against AC Milan in a topsy turvy game at Anfield, which saw Salah's Liverpool record a 3-2 win on matchday one in this season's Champions League.

The former AS Roma forward was among the scorers yet again when both sides met for the reverse fixture with his effort and Origi's second-half goal enough for the six-time champions to record a perfect run in the group stages - six wins in six matches.

His bromance with the Milan sides did not end at the group stage with the round of 16 draw pairing them against the other divide of the city - Inter Milan - and he was at it again this time living it late to put a dagger straight down the heart of the reigning Italian league champions with a late strike.

Despite missing out on winning the Holy Grail for Egypt at the recently-ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Salah seems to have kicked on after the disappointment in Cameroon, which saw his side lose on penalties to Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane's Senegal.

Salah dreams of AFCON glory in Cameroon

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Egypt captain Mohammed Salah has said winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will mean more to him as the Pharaoh's edge closer to winning an eighth continental crown.

Salah scored the winning penalty as the team edged Ivory Coast 5-4 via penalty shootout in the quarter-finals with Manchester United's defender, Eric Baily missing his spot-kick.

The 7-time champions will now meet fellow North Africans Morocco in the last eight as they continue their quest to win a record-extending 8th African title.
