- Reports have it that the impressive Nigerian international is on the radar of relegation-battling Newcastle United
- The Magpies will be asked to pay £20 million for the 26-year-old as they are really willing to offer him a contract worth £100,000-a-week in wages
English Premier League club Newcastle United have reportedly made Nigeria’s Moses Simon their key target and will offer him a mouthwatering deal, Geordie Boot Boys reports.
Own Goal reports that the Super Eagles forward who can play from both wings could leave French side Nantes to join the Magpies during the summer.
It was gathered that the 26-year-old could cost the English club around £20 million as they are also willing to offer him a contract worth £100,000-a-week in wages, which should not be an issue for Newcastle’s owners.
He began this season on a staggering note, making six assists but he has made none since November as his performance has slightly dropped.
Simon was arguably one of Nigeria’s best players at the just concluded 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where the Super Eagles crashed out in the Round of 16.
He put up a man-of-the-match performance against the Pharaohs of Egypt as he was instrumental in their 1-0 win over the North Africans who eventually reached the final of the tournament.
Further reports claim this is not the first time Newcastle United had shown interest in the former Levante of Spain star as he was poached during the reign of Rafa Benitez.
The English club made efforts to land him at that time but of course, Mike Ashley was still at the top of the club and that meant targets were regularly missed.
Liverpool have been credited with interest too, as well as Leeds, and it would be a boost if they could beat those two clubs to the wideman in the summer, not least because it would likely mean survival has been secured.
