Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has been contacted by the FA days after a revealing interview where he spoke of malicious intent during his playing days back in 2006.

In a recent interview, Rooney went on record to claim that he “made John Terry walk on crutches” following a tackle during a Chelsea-Man United game.

Rooney spoke to The Mail on Sunday where he admitted to changing his studs to long metal ones with the intention to “try to hurt someone”.

"We knew if Chelsea won then they had won the league that day,” Rooney said in the interview.
"For that game I changed them to big, long metal ones - the maximum length you could have because I wanted to try and hurt someone, try and injure someone."

Manchester United would go on to lose the game 3-0 and Chelsea eventually won the title that season.

"I left a hole in his foot and then I signed my shirt to him after the game", Rooney went on.

Following the interview, the Football Association has sought observation from Rooney in relation to the comments.

The Derby County boss risks a fine after the explosive comments.

Sky Sports tried to reach out to Derby County for comment but the club said no further comments would be made at this time.

There was a similar incident in 2002 that came with repercussions for Roy Keane, who was banned and fined by the FA after a claim in his autobiography stating he set out to hurt Manchester City midfielder Alf Inge Haaland in a game in April 2001.

John Terry’s response

On Monday, February 7, John Terry made light of Rooney’s claims on Twitter as he laughed off the whole incident.

"Is this when you left your stud in my foot?" Terry posed on social media coupled with a number of emojis.

Rooney has had spells with Manchester United, Everton, DC United and Derby County before eventually hanging up his boots.

He is currently embroiled in an intense battle to save Derby from relegation after the Rams suffered a 21-point reduction.
