Sadio Mane has opened up on what he said to Mohamed Salah after his Senegal side stunned Egypt to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Mane warmed hearts shortly after the whistle of the Sunday, February 6, final staged at the Paul Biya Stadium as he went over to console a teary Salah.
Mane's AFCON final influence
The Senegalese winger was the man of the moment during the thrilling clash as his spot-kick won the Lions of Teranga their first-ever AFCON title.
Mane, who had missed a penalty during regulation time made amends in the shootouts as he calmly slotted home the winning spot-kick to inspire Senegal to glory.
There were touching scenes shortly after as he approached Salah to commiserate with him.
What Mane told Salah
The former Southampton ace has now lifted the lid on what exactly he said to his Liverpool teammate.
"I told him that he remains a very great player and it’s a pleasure to play for the same club. I have so much respect for him and he gave everything for his country," Mane divulged.
"Unfortunately, he didn’t win, but that doesn’t mean it’s over for him. I also told him that he still has many things to win, including the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. They have a young team so maybe they will win it one day," he added.
