Former Arsenal star Marc Overmars has resigned from his position as a director of football at Dutch club Ajax after admitting he sent inappropriate messages to female colleagues., Mirror reports.
Reports have it that the 48-year-old had been at the club for about ten years having been appointed in 2012 as he recently signed a new deal until 2026.
The media in the Netherlands was awash with reports that the former midfielder had been sending inappropriate messages to lure his female colleagues to bed.
Overmars admits wrongdoing
Consequently, he has admitted wrongdoing and is now quick to tender his resignation at the club.
In a statement on the Ajax website, Overmars said as per Marca:
"I am ashamed. I suddenly felt enormous pressure. I apologise. Certainly for someone in my position, this behaviour is unacceptable.
"I now see that too. But it is too late. I see no other option but to leave Ajax. This also has a major impact on my private situation. That is why I ask everyone to leave me and my family alone."
Ajax board chairman Leen Meijaard said:
"This is a dramatic situation for everyone who is involved in any way.”

Greenwood has been suspended indefinitely at his club after he was arrested and as he returns home on bail, the player is protecting himself and his family.
His new attack dog has its kennel by the side of the player’s red-brick as two security cameras are also fitted to monitor the six-bed, £14,000-a-month rented home in Cheshire round the clock.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has shed more light on why Jesse Lingard was blocked from leaving the club in the January transfer window.
Rangnick, in a press conference on Thursday, February 3, said Mason Greenwood’s arrest played a factor in the club’s decision to ultimately keep Lingard.
Greenwood, who was recently released on bail, was recently arrested and quizzed by police on suspicion of a number of felonies including assault and threats to kill.
