Former Black Stars attackers Otto Addo and Ibrahim Tanko are set to named as the new deputy coaches of the senior national team of Ghana.

The duo, who played for German club Borussia Dortmund in the 90s and early 2000s, will assist incoming coach Chris Hughton.

Their first assignment is to eliminate Nigeria over two legs in the World Cup qualifying playoffs next month and qualify for the Mundial which will be staged in Qatar later this year.

The first leg of the playoffs will be played in a yet to be named venue in Ghana before traveling to Abuja for the second leg with the hope of making a fourth appearance at the Mundial.

Born to Ghanaian parents in Hamburg, Germany, the 46-year-old featured for Bundesliga clubs Hamburg and Hannover 96 before being transferred to Borussia Dortmund in 1999. He made over 75 appearances and became a Bundesliga champion in 2002.

Addo made his debut for Black Stars of Ghana in 1999 in a 5–0 thrashing of Eritrea. He was part of Ghana's 2006 World Cup squad and even started as right midfielder in the 2-0 triumph over Czech Republic. Addo also featured against USA in the last group game match at the Mundial in Germany.

His teammate, Ibrahim Tanko, joined Dortmund in 1994 from King faisal at age 17, making him the third youngest player to appear professionally for them behind Nuri Şahin and Lars Ricken.

Tanko went ahead to play for Dortmund for seven years, making 77 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals.

He earned nine caps for Ghana, the last coming on 10 October 2004 – after an absence of eight years – against DR Congo in Kumasi ahead of the Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton is on the verge of being named new Black Stars, reports in the local media suggest.

The Ghana Football Association [GFA] has reached an agreement with the Youth and Sports Ministry to appoint the Irish Ghanaian as the successor for Milovan Rajevac.
