Egypt booked their place in the final of AFCON 2021 after beating hosts Cameroon on penalties.

The Egyptians were clinical when it came to the shootout while Cameroon failed to fire.

Only captain Vincent Aboubakar converted his spot-kick as Egypt ran out 3-1 winners. Harold Moukoudi and James Lea Siliki had their penalties saved while Clinton N'Jie put his wide, BBC reported.

Egypt will now face off against Senegal in the final with Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah facing off, Sport24 confirmed.

Twitter is excited at the prospect of the teammates meeting but was also critical of Cameroon’s performance in front of the goal.

Here's how social media reacted:

@Kayceeremo:

"The way Cameroon was playing you would think they were confident on how very good they are at penalties. They have themselves to blame! What a dreadful semi-final match!"

@mukingaemma:

"Vincent Aboubakar is the only player in the Cameroon team who trained for taking a penalty."

AFCON 2021: Tournament winners to take home an eye-watering $5 million

In other AFCON related news, the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations being hosted in Cameroon will see the winner take home an eye-watering $5 million as a cash prize, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The amount is slightly higher than what Algeria banked when they won the tournament in 2019 in Egypt. Algeria, who were eliminated in the group stages of the 2021 AFCON, took home $4.5 million at the time.

Only Egypt or Senegal can walk away with that money. The Lions of Teranga hammered Burkina Faso 3-1 to book their place in the final while Egypt beat Cameroon 3-1 on penalties to set up a mouthwatering clash.
