- Edwards switch to Goodison Park effectively ends his 27-year stay with the Blues where he started off as a schoolboy player
Chelsea coach Joe Edwards has ended his 27-year association with the Blues to link up with Frank Lampard at Everton.
Edwards is joining the Toffees as Lampard's assistant following the former midfielder's Monday, January 31, appointment as Everton boss.
The 35-year-old worked with Lampard during the ex-Chelsea manager's spell in charge of the Blues.
Metro UK reports he first joined the west Londoners as a schoolboy with the hope of making his name as a player.
However, his playing career did not work out as planned and he decided to switch into coaching where he has managed to work his way through the ranks.
Lampard, who is a huge fan of his work brought him in to work with the first team while serving as the Chelsea boss after previously being involved with the youth teams.
The newly-appointed Everton boss has now managed to convince Edwards to dump the Blues and link up with him at Goodison Park as his assistant.
Interestingly, Edwards is not the only staff member joining Lampard at the Merseyside club from Chelsea, with Paul Clement arriving as first-team coach and Chris Jones joining as first-team coach and head of performance.
Lampard is set to kick-off his Everton reign with an FA Cup fourth-round clash against EPL rivals Brentford.
